Shopify iyzico Integration: Installments, Refunds, Setup

Shopify iyzico Integration: Installments, Refunds, Setup

Short answer

A Shopify iyzico integration means installing iyzico’s official payment app from the Shopify App Store and connecting it with the API keys of your iyzico merchant account. Because Shopify Payments is not offered to companies based in Turkey (Shopify Payments supported countries), Turkish stores take card payments through third-party payment providers. iyzico is one of these alternative providers, activated in the Shopify admin through the “add payment method” flow under Settings > Payments.

The technical connection is usually done the same day. The real timeline depends on iyzico approving your merchant application, decisions on installments and surcharges, test orders and reconciliation on the accounting side. With an approved iyzico account, taking live payments safely within 3–7 business days is a realistic frame.

This guide was prepared with the field experience of the Byte Digital team, a Shopify Plus Partner that has served Shopify brands for 7 years.

How does iyzico work on Shopify?

iyzico connects to Shopify as an approved payments app: the customer chooses iyzico on the Shopify checkout, enters card and installment details in iyzico’s payment step, and the payment result is written back to the Shopify order. According to Shopify’s developer documentation, only approved Partners can build payments apps and every payments app must be approved by Shopify. That is why using iyzico’s official app is much faster and safer than building your own payment solution.

The market picture supports this: in our technical analysis of 100 Shopify stores in Turkey, 45 of the stores took payments with iyzico. That makes iyzico the most common payment provider among Turkish Shopify stores.

Installments, surcharges and 3D Secure: what is specific to Turkey

The part of an iyzico integration in Turkey that needs the most care is keeping the installment surcharge consistent with the Shopify order amount. The technical setup is easy; problems usually appear in accounting and refunds.

  • Installment options: Shopify checkout has no installment table for Turkish banks; installments are chosen in the iyzico payment step. Which cards get how many installments depends on your iyzico account settings and agreement.

  • Installment surcharge: The surcharge charged to the customer is not added to the Shopify order amount automatically. iyzico has published a separate App Store app (iyzico Admin Metafields) to write this amount to the order details. Decide early how this amount will be handled in invoicing and ERP transfers.

  • 3D Secure: Which transactions go through 3D verification depends on your iyzico account settings and risk rules. Test that payments failing at the 3D step do not create orders in Shopify.

  • Refunds: Start refunds from the order in the Shopify admin. Refunds made only in the provider panel may not show on the Shopify order, and stock, reports and invoice records drift apart.

  • Redirects and mobile: Because the payment step is completed on iyzico’s side, the customer’s return to the store should be tested separately on mobile browsers and for 3D transactions approved in a banking app.

  • Legal pages: The distance sales agreement, return terms and contact details must be complete on the site; gaps in KVKK and ETBİS compliance can also delay merchant approval.

iyzico, PayTR or Craftgate? Shopify payment options

Payment institutions such as iyzico or PayTR suit stores that want to start fast with a single contract, while payment orchestration platforms such as Craftgate suit high-volume brands that want to use their own bank virtual POS agreements. All three have official apps on the Shopify App Store; 94 of the 100 stores in Byte’s analysis used one of these three providers.

Shopify iyzico integration step by step

If you have an approved iyzico account, setup takes a few steps in the Shopify admin; the flow below is based on iyzico’s official Shopify documentation (iyzico Shopify documentation).

  1. Merchant application and approval (1–5 business days): iyzico reviews your company details, documents and website. The timeline depends on complete documents and a ready website.

  2. Getting API keys (10 minutes): Copy the API Key and Secret Key from Settings > Company Settings in the iyzico merchant panel.

  3. Activating the app (15 minutes): In Shopify, go to Settings > Payments > Add payment method, search for “iyzico” by provider, click Activate and Connect, and install the app.

  4. Connecting the account (10 minutes): On the iyzico onboarding screen you are redirected to, enter the API keys and enable the “iyzico - Credit and Debit Cards” option.

  5. Installment and surcharge settings (half a day): Decide which installments to offer, whether the customer or the brand carries the surcharge and how this amount is written to the order.

  6. Test orders (1–2 days): Use small real orders to try single payments, installment payments, a failed 3D verification, partial and full refunds, and the mobile payment flow.

  7. Go-live and reconciliation (first week): During the first week, compare iyzico transaction reports with Shopify orders daily and catch amount, surcharge and refund differences early.

The main cost factors: the commission and payout schedule agreed with iyzico (varies by agreement), who carries the installment surcharge, the transaction fee Shopify charges for third-party providers depending on your plan, and whether payment data must be transferred to an ERP or e-invoice system.

The 6 most common mistakes in a Shopify iyzico integration

Most iyzico integration mistakes are noticed not during setup but at the first refunds and the first month-end reconciliation.

  1. Going live with test keys: Test (sandbox) and live API keys are different. At go-live, check that the keys were switched and verify with a real order.

  2. Refunding from the provider panel: The Shopify order looks unrefunded, stock does not come back, and reports and invoice records do not match.

  3. Not reflecting the surcharge in accounting: The amount reaching the bank account differs from the Shopify order amount, and month-end reconciliation takes days.

  4. Not testing the mobile return flow: If the customer cannot return to the thank you page after approving a 3D transaction in a banking app, they may try to buy the same product again.

  5. Enabling several card providers without a reason: Two similar card options at checkout leave the customer undecided. A second provider should be added for a specific need and with clear naming.

  6. Not monitoring payment errors: If declined transactions and 3D failures are not monitored regularly, conversion loss grows unnoticed.

Yes. iyzico has an official payments app on the Shopify App Store. The app is added as a payment method under Settings > Payments in Shopify and connected with your iyzico account’s API keys.

Can I sell in installments with iyzico on Shopify?

Yes. Installments are chosen in the iyzico payment step, and the options offered depend on your iyzico account settings and agreement. You also need to plan how the installment surcharge is reflected in the Shopify order.

How long does a Shopify iyzico integration take?

For providers other than Shopify Payments, Shopify charges a transaction fee that varies by subscription plan. iyzico’s commission is set separately by your agreement with iyzico.

How do I refund an iyzico payment on Shopify?
