The short answer
Amazon Shopify integration is the automatic transfer of products, stock and prices from your Shopify store to Amazon, and of Amazon orders back into Shopify. It is set up with Shopify's own app, Shopify Marketplace Connect (formerly Codisto), with a multichannel platform, or with custom middleware connected to Amazon's Selling Partner API (SP-API).
For brands in Turkey, an Amazon integration has two sides: domestic sales on Amazon.com.tr and exports through Amazon marketplaces such as the US, the UK and Germany. Matching products to the Amazon catalogue (ASIN) and choosing the fulfilment model (FBA or FBM) are the two main decisions that define the scope. A standard setup takes 2–4 weeks; a multi-country setup with FBA takes 6–12 weeks.

Which data is synchronised between Amazon and Shopify?
Data | Direction | Frequency | Shopify side | Amazon side |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Products and variants | Shopify → Amazon | On new products and changes | Product, ProductVariant, metafields | Listing; match to an ASIN or a new ASIN, product type attributes |
SEO fields | Shopify → Amazon | With the product | Title, description, metafields | Title, bullet points, search terms |
Stock | Shopify → Amazon | Near real time | InventoryLevel | FBM stock (FBA stock is held in Amazon warehouses) |
Price | Shopify → Amazon | On change | Channel- and currency-specific price | Marketplace-level price |
Order | Amazon → Shopify | Every few minutes | Order (with channel tag) | Amazon order |
Shipping info | Shopify → Amazon | On dispatch (FBM) | Fulfillment | Shipment confirmation, tracking number |
Returns | Amazon → Shopify | Event-driven | Return, Refund | Return requests |
Amazon-specific rules: ASIN, brand registry and fulfilment model
ASIN and catalogue matching: Every product on Amazon has an ASIN. If your product already exists in the Amazon catalogue (for example, with the same barcode), you are added to that ASIN as an offer; if not, a new ASIN is created. Most categories require a barcode (GTIN/EAN) to create a new product; for your own brand you may need to apply for an exemption.
Product type and mandatory fields: Amazon requires different mandatory fields for each product type. Keeping product attributes in Shopify metafields makes this mapping much easier.
Brand Registry: For companies selling their own brand, it gives control over the product page, A+ content and brand protection. It is best completed before the integration.
FBA and FBM: With FBA, products are sent to Amazon warehouses and Amazon handles stock and shipping. With FBM, you ship the orders and stock is fed from Shopify. FBA is usually preferred on international Amazon marketplaces because delivery time and the Prime badge directly affect sales.
Marketplace and currency: Price and currency are managed separately on each marketplace such as Amazon.com.tr, Amazon.de and Amazon.com. Shopify Marketplace Connect supports listing on all Amazon marketplaces and in different currencies (Codisto FAQ). Amazon.com.tr sits as a separate marketplace under the Europe region of the Selling Partner API, so a setup built for Turkey can be extended with the same structure to European marketplaces such as Germany and the UK.
Export paperwork: For sales from Turkey to international Amazon marketplaces, customs, micro-export and tax processes must be planned separately from the integration.
Amazon Shopify integration methods
Method | When to choose it | Setup time | Flexibility | Ongoing cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Shopify Marketplace Connect | Shopify-centred, one or a few Amazon marketplaces | 1–3 weeks | Medium | Monthly plan + possible per-order fees |
Multichannel marketplace platform | Domestic marketplaces such as Trendyol and Hepsiburada alongside Amazon | 2–6 weeks | Medium | Monthly licence |
Custom middleware connected to SP-API | ERP integration, multi-country pricing rules, FBA inventory planning | 6–12 weeks | Highest | Hosting + maintenance |
In the architecture we recommend, Shopify is the single hub: product content, pricing rules and FBM stock are managed from Shopify, and Amazon orders land in Shopify with a channel tag. On marketplaces using FBA, stock in the Amazon warehouse is tracked like a separate location, so you can see how much of each product is left in which warehouse on one screen.
Shopify Marketplace Connect also supports channels such as eBay and Walmart alongside Amazon, but it does not cover domestic marketplaces such as Trendyol and Hepsiburada. Brands selling both domestically and on Amazon therefore often use two tools or a single multichannel platform. If several countries are targeted, a Shopify Plus Expansion Store setup should also be considered.
Stock, pricing, FBA and export management
Marketplace-level pricing: Amazon commission, FBA fees, exchange rates and shipping costs vary by marketplace. Prices should be managed with separate rules or separate price fields for each marketplace.
FBA stock planning: With FBA, stock is deducted from Shopify when it is sent to an Amazon warehouse, and FBA stock is tracked separately. A regular replenishment plan is needed for warehouse capacity and seasonal demand.
Safety stock: With FBM, Amazon and the website share the same stock, so a buffer should be kept on critical products.
Content adaptation: On Amazon, the title, bullet points and search terms determine ranking. The Shopify product description should not be sent as is; it should be adapted to the target language and Amazon's search logic.
Currency and payouts: Payouts from international Amazon sales are made in foreign currency. How they are booked in accounting should be planned from the start.
Amazon Shopify integration step by step: timeline and cost
2–4 weeks for a single marketplace with FBM, 6–12 weeks for multi-country setups with FBA.
Strategy (1 week): Decide which Amazon marketplaces, which products, and whether to sell with FBA or FBM.
Account and brand (1–3 weeks): Seller account verification, brand registry and a barcode exemption if needed.
Catalogue preparation (1–3 weeks): Existing ASIN matches, product type fields for new products, titles and bullet points in the target language.
Setup or development (1–4 weeks): Product, stock, price and order flows; an inventory shipment plan if FBA is used.
Pilot and scaling (1–2 weeks): Launch with a limited set of products first, then the full catalogue.
The main cost drivers are the number of marketplaces, the share of products needing new ASINs, translation and content adaptation, FBA inventory management and the ERP connection.
The 5 most common mistakes in Amazon Shopify integration
Sending the Shopify description as is: Content that does not fit Amazon's title and bullet-point structure pushes the product down in search.
Matching to the wrong ASIN: Offering on the ASIN of a similar but not identical product leads to returns and account health problems.
Not tracking FBA stock: When stock in the Amazon warehouse runs out, ranking drops quickly; a replenishment plan must be part of the integration.
Launching on all marketplaces with one price: If exchange rate, commission and shipping differences are ignored, some countries sell at a loss.
Postponing brand registry: Without it, control over the product page is limited and other sellers can change the content.

Frequently asked questions
Can Shopify be integrated with Amazon?
Yes. A Shopify store can be connected to Amazon with Shopify's own app Shopify Marketplace Connect, multichannel platforms, or custom middleware connected to Amazon's SP-API.
Can I sell on Amazon Turkey with Shopify?
Yes. Amazon.com.tr is a separate marketplace in Amazon's Selling Partner API, and the integration for domestic sales is built on the same infrastructure. Domestically, most brands start with FBM and manage stock from Shopify.
Should I choose FBA or FBM?
On international Amazon marketplaces, FBA usually comes out ahead because of fast delivery and the Prime badge. Domestically and for low-volume products, FBM makes it easier to keep stock in one place.
Do Amazon orders land in Shopify?
They should. Stock is then deducted from one hub and the ERP receives all orders from a single source.
Does every product on Amazon need a barcode?
Most categories require a GTIN/EAN barcode to create a new product. You can apply for a barcode exemption for products of your own brand.
